Seafarers Awareness Week (24 - 30 June 2017) will be officially launched on Thursday 9 February at the maritime industry reception hosted by Inmarsat HQ, London, where they will unveil this year’s campaign themes in more depth; ‘Maritime Jobs at Sea and Ashore’ and ‘Sea Ports for Prosperity’.
Industry guests are invited to join the campaign and show their support by taking part in activities around the UK, thus raising as much awareness as possible by ensuring that those who are not within the industry and are understand the importance of our UK Seafarers.
Last year Viking Recruitment and The Maritime Skills Academy took part in the 24 Peak Challenge which was by far one of the hardest challenges they have faced. It was a true test of friendship, commitment, patience and fitness levels but the team completed it and raised £2758 for a fantastic cause.
This year Matthew Jaenicke, Managing Director and Paul Rutterford, General Manager, will be attending the Seafarers Awareness Week 2017 launch on Thursday, on behalf of The Viking Family of Companies.
Ahead of the event Paul Rutterford said, ‘We are delighted to be supporting Seafarers Awareness Week 2017. Promoting a career at sea is vital to see our industry continue to grow, Viking and the Maritime Skills Academy are committed to ensuring we promote the wide and diverse careers choices that are available'.
Matthew Jaenicke added, 'Promoting our Sea Ports is key to our industry, Viking’s Head Office is based in Dover, which has one of Europe's busiest passenger ports seeing an extensive investment and regeneration. This includes our £6.5 million Maritime Skills Academy campus, a state-of-the art training facility for the maritime industry’.
Seafarers Awareness Week is an annual campaign which is coordinated by Seafarers UK. The charity supports the maritime community and raises awareness of Britain’s dependence on seafarers. This year they are celebrating 100 years. For more information please visit their website: www.seafarersweek.uk
