Deck Officers

Foundation Degree in Marine Operations (leading to full BSc (Hons) Marine Operations Management and MCA Certificate of Competency).

Training is of a sandwich type, consisting of alternating college and sea phases. The overall duration for a deck officer is approximately 3 years.

The initial qualification allows you to take a navigational watch on the bridge of a vessel at sea. This however, is just the beginning, as you progress your career towards the rank of Captain. In your cadetship and ongoing development you will learn the essentials of seamanship, design and stability, safe working practices, people and management, law, navigation, meteorology and many other related topics.

Overall they will give you the knowledge, confidence and self-discipline to be successful at sea or in the industry framework ashore.

Consolidation of Work Based Learning and any outstanding academic assessments prior to the award of:
Foundation Degree (FdSC) in Marine Operations

Phase 5
(part 2)
3 weeks

STCW short courses:
Medical First Aid, AFF, PSC & RB, GMDSS, NARAS, EDH

MCA Orals Preparation

Successful completion of MCA Oral examinations leads to award of initial:
MCA Certificate of Competency

    Completion of Cadetship*

* Option to continue on to full Honours Degree
