This year Viking had a two-boat entry into the International Superyacht Society (ISS) Annual Regatta, racing from Hamble-Le-Rice to Cowes. Thirteen boats competed in the Solent using Fairview Sailing’s Beneteau Oceanis 37 yachts.
The team met with gusts of up to 32 knots on Saturday and racing was postponed after the third race due to dangerous conditions and strong tides. Saturday evening’s socialising event was held at the UKSA in Cowes, where the crews enjoyed a Barbecue, live music and a raffle in aid of the ISS’ chosen charity ‘Sail 4 Cancer’. Day two was much the opposite with barely any wind. Sunday looked to be an early finish too, but all persevered to find pockets of wind to continue for another 4 races.
The Viking boats finished in 9th and 10th places, whilst the defending champions, BMT Nigel Gee took 1st place with one of their three teams. All involved has a great time and we thank the ISS event organisers and Fairview Sailing for making the weekend a success.
