CV Tips

Your CV is a very important aspect in the recruitment process so make sure you take care when writing it, check grammar and that it sells you in the best possible way.

We recommend keeping it brief, around 2 pages maximum and not too over crowded with wording. It can be the first thing a cruise company or recruitment agency will see about you so first impressions really do count.

Using a professional email address is a must. You should always make sure your personal and contact details are up to date. Having a photo is optional but we advise that it is head and shoulders wearing uniform or similar.

Adding all your qualifications and skills on the first page is important as any potential employer will see what courses you have undertaken and the level of qualifications held. To include expiry dates is a good idea as well.

We recommend writing your work history in chronological order from most recent employment to the oldest employment. You should include dates to and from, shipping companies and vessels, plus the rank held and duties with each position. If you haven't worked at sea, stick to the same format. Keep the work history short and concise but making sure all aspects are covered.

Reference contact details can be added but if you have references which can accompany your CV then always have these available.
